Our 10-day photography tour is designed to take you on an unforgettable journey through the country’s most iconic locations. From the dramatic eruptions of Fuego Volcano to the laid-back vibes of a surf beach town, this tour is your chance to explore, learn, and create stunning images.

Your 10-Day Photography Adventure Awaits

Day 1-3: Landscape Photography on Acatenango Volcano

Kick off your journey with a hike up Acatenango Volcano, where you’ll capture the awe-inspiring eruptions of Fuego Volcano. Learn landscape photography techniques like long exposures and composition while surrounded by Guatemala’s breathtaking highlands.

Day 4-5: Architectural & Street Photography in Antigua Guatemala

Explore Antigua’s colonial charm and learn how to photograph its iconic architecture. From ornate churches to cobblestone streets, this segment will help you master techniques like perspective control and symmetry.

Day 6: Photography at Lake Atitlán – Mayan Heritage & Stunning Views

Spend a day at Lake Atitlán, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, surrounded by volcanoes and traditional Mayan villages. Capture the vibrant culture of the local communities, the colorful textiles, and the stunning landscapes. This segment focuses on cultural and landscape photography, offering a unique glimpse into Guatemala’s Mayan heritage.

Day 7-10: Surf Beach Photograph

End your adventure in a chill surf beach town, where you’ll photograph surfers in action, golden sunsets, and the vibrant beach culture. Learn how to capture the energy and beauty of the coast.

ANTIGUA GUATEMALA

  • Arrive in Antigua and check into the hotel. Then we will have a welcome dinner at Guatelaria at 7 pm

  • We start the day early to photograph all the different architectural landmarks of Antigua Guatemala. We will have coffee breaks and a lunch break back at the hotel. In the afternoon we take a short hike to Cerro de la Cruz to see a bird’s eye view of the city.

  • We start the day early to photograph the early start of street life in Antigua. We will head to the market where we will see local people setting up their selling posts and the bustling chicken bus station.

  • We begin the day early with Breakfast at the hotel then we head to our hike to Acatenango. Arrive at base camp and we spend the night there.

  • Come down from Acatenango and back to Antigua. Lunch at the hotel and a free evening for everyone to rest for the next day.

  • Take an early shuttle to Lake Atitlan. We stop to get breakfast in the Mayan highlands. Arrive at the hotel to drop off luggage and then go to see the picturesque town of San Antonio Palopo. A town known for its beautiful pottery. We will have sunset photo session to capture the sun setting behind the volcanoes that guard the lake.

  • We begin the day early with Breakfast at the hotel then we take a water taxi that will take us to the town of San Juan la Laguna where we will spend the majority of the day. Then we will take a boat back to the hotel and take our bus down to the Pacific coast.

El PAREDON

  • We start the day early photographing surf life in the black sand beaches of El Paredon. We will have an early lunch followed by surf lessons for those who feel adventurous enough or a free afternoon to explore the town.

  • We begin our last day with breakfast at the hotel followed by a tour of the mangroves where we may be able to see sea turtles. We will have lunch at a local pizza place and have an afternoon gathering at the beach to check out the sunset where we can take photos of surfers and beach life.

    We end the day with Drinks at Miguelito’s for a farewell gathering.

DAY 10

We will start shuttling people back to the airport in Guatemala City. All shuttles will be leaving from El Paredon. If you would like to stay longer in Guatemala and explore other parts of the country or go back to some of the areas we explored. We will make sure to help you get the shuttle to the right destination.

LAKE ATITLAN

This group dinner would be a great way to introduce you to the Guatemalan cousins. An authentic Guatemalan restaurant in the heart of Antigua with amazing traditional dishes.

Breakfast and Lunch for Day 1 to Day 7 will be offered by the hotel in Antigua, by the expedition company to the Volcano, and by the hotel in Lake Atitlan. Including lunch, one dinner in El Paredon and one round of drinks at Miguelito’s on the farewell night gathering.

An incredible intermediate hike of about 6 hours to the base camp of Acatanenga volcano. We will camp here and sleep in rustic cabins where we can watch Fuego and photograph sunset, and eruptions at night and sunrise.

All transportation to the locations will be provided, including lanchas (water taxis) at the lake. As well as transportation from and to the airport on arrival and departure dates.

Surf lessons and the mangrove boat tours are included.

No photography gear will be provided by us. Make sure to bring yours. We advise you to bring a travel tripod and a verist lens that could work for landscape, street and portrait photography.

Some food and drinks not listed above are not included. Make sure to bring your wated bottle so we can refill it at the hotel and other locations we visit. There are convenience stores and grocery stores close to the hotel wehre you can buy anything else you may need.

  • The accommodations offered are shared double rooms at Hotels with private bathrooms.

    You can book an individual room during the process of booking your place for the photo tour or write us at arturoriveraphoto@gmail.com

  • Our tours include all internal transportation (cars, vans, or trains. We don’t include international flights, but we will guide you at the moment of your booking to the best options to arrive to the destination from your home.

  • This tour includes 50% of the meals. Once you inquire about the tour we will send you what meals are included.

  • To book your place you need to pay 25% of the total cost. The total payment must be made at least 45 days before the trip.

    This tour is done by Photography Workshops PhotoWorldTours SLU, due to illness or other reasons the trip may be made by another guide.

  • If a client cancels their trip, the deposit (25% of the total trip cost) is non-refundable. However, other payments will be refunded according to the following terms:

    • Between 45 and 60 days before the tour start date: 50% of the total trip cost will be refunded.

    • Less than 45 days before the tour start date: No refund will be issued.

  • The price of this Photo Tour is based on the participation of a minimum of 6 participants. In case there are not enough participants, the possibility of making the trip will be offered with an increase proportional to the price, or a 100% refund of the total paid.

    The last time of exchange rate calculation was January 1st, 2025, the final price can be modified up to 30 days before the tour start.

  • The itinerary is subject to change due to unforeseen events, such as extreme weather conditions, accidents, or other extraordinary circumstances.

  • No! Our tour is designed for all skill levels, from beginners to pros.

  • Bring your camera, lenses, and a tripod if you have one. We’ll provide a detailed packing list after booking.

  • Some segments, like the Acatenango hike, require moderate fitness. Others, like the Lake Atitlán visit, are more relaxed.
